The January Reckoning: Why Everything Feels Like It’s Falling Apart After New Year’s

"Does January already feel like it's testing you? Breakups, job drama, big life shake-ups... is anyone else going through it?"

This January, so many of us are navigating profound, soul-shifting changes—and let's be honest, it can feel really tough, even painful, in the moment. So why is this happening?

There are moments in life when we must learn to embrace change. Just look at our own bodies—they're in a beautiful, never-ending cycle of renewal. Skin cells refresh every few weeks, our stomach lining rebuilds in days, and even our liver regenerates over months. This constant rebirth within us mirrors the world around us: always evolving, always making space for the new. Right now, in this early January energy, those deep shifts feel challenging—but they're also proof that transformation is the most natural thing we do.

At times these changes come along when we feel like we need them least because there is so much else going on in our lives. It can send us into a state of overwhelmed , so what can be done?

Well, first understand why this is happening.

As I previously stated we are continuously changing our bodies and cells are always renewing so will our lives and this is for our soul growth. This is to enable us to spiritually transcend to heighten our frequencies to become a better person in a sense, a more evolved happier lighter and more joyous person. These changes unfold in natural stages throughout our entire life. Think back to when you were a child — remember how much you've grown, evolved, and transformed since then.

You only reached who you are today because of the countless cellular, hormonal, emotional, and physical shifts that happened automatically along the way. Each stage built upon the last, shaping your body, mind, and spirit into the person you are right now. It's simply impossible to remain physically a child forever in a child's body (barring rare medical conditions). Growth and change are inevitable parts of being human.

Methods to cope.

One of the first things that I do when I go through these transformational periods in my life is to go within, to go quiet, to go still and to be with myself. I do this by being solitary by being with the Spirit and the divine source of all creation. I do this through Meditation, Yoga walking, praying and sitting with myself allowing this transformation and integration of new energies to occur at the correct rate for me so I do not go to overwhelm or become ill or run down. It’s when we resist these changes that we can become poorly, dissatisfied and unhappy. However, they really are necessary for our growth and it’s when we come through the other side that we can clearly see why we need to go through this transition, and how it is of benefit to us because ultimately nothing stays the same. Everything is in a change of flux and change because we live in a Universe of Energy and we are Energy; therefore I choose not to resist, for what we resist persists we cannot fight it so just allow and accept that’s my way of doing it.

Meditation is a huge benefit not just at these times but throughout my whole life and you will find that too if you can master the art of being with yourself and being still and quiet. When we learn to quieten the mind through Meditation you’ll find that your life becomes more peaceful and calm, and even when the difficulties come to you will be able to manage them in a much more fruitful way so that you can see things objectively and to be detached .

Staying objective helps you better understand and navigate what's happening around you. This clarity allows you to make sound, balanced decisions based on the facts rather than being swept away by feelings. When we get caught up in intense emotions during a challenging situation and respond purely from that emotional place, things often become even more difficult. That's exactly when overwhelm tends to take hold — clouding judgment, escalating stress, and making effective solutions much harder to find.

Methods to help you cope.

Deep breathing yoga walking running all activities that will also help you through this transitional period which you might be experiencing now even a 10 minute brisk walk every day will do you the world of good. The fresh air and being outdoors connecting with nature are all simple things at life provides for us to get into the natural rhythms of life and to know that in the winter is a time of rest solitude and inward journeying to embrace that moment, knowing that it will soon change when spring comes

I’ve also found eating super healthy, simple foods like kimchi, sprouted seeds, green veg cutting out caffeine, sugar and just keeping the diet very very simple really helps me as well to focus and to encourage and allow these new energies which are coming in. It also helps to give the digestive system a little bit of a rest so we’re not overloading our body and making it work harder than it needs to.

In the old days when man was more connected to nature, winter as a time of conserving energy, sitting by the fire and preparing food they would eat foods to give them the right energy for winter. The main thing was not to exert unnecessary energy to conserve it for warmth and good health during the challenging months of winter.

However you choose to face the new which is coming into your lives now do it with a sense of relaxation, acceptance and peace knowing that when old things are moved away situations, places, jobs, relationships, whatever is occurring now in your life usually has a good reason behind it.

During these challenging times it is important to learn to relax, to meditate, to have acceptance of what is happening, enjoy solitude and peace which will all bring harmony within yourself. Then you’ll be able to deal with all that the world throws at you.

The world is a place of challenges and difficulties. Sometimes it’s happy and sometimes it’s sorrowful but we need to stay on the middle path and stay calm and peaceful, centred and objective as much as we can so that our inner peace does not become disturbed or distorted in any way.

If you can master this skill, you'll make far better and clearer decisions — both in your own life and when helping others.

Not getting emotionally involved doesn’t mean you don’t care.

It simply means you’re choosing to stay objective. That objectivity allows you to remain calm and see situations much more clearly than when you're deeply caught up in emotion.

So to summarise stay with yourself during these times don’t try to do too much be at One be at peace have a little exercise gently daily eat good foods listen to your body tune in with your body. It will tell you what it needs meditate and relax as much as possible if you feel like being Creative be Creative it’s a good time to start putting things in place which we’re coming to fruition in the spring.

To summarise:

During these quieter, introspective times, the key is to stay connected with yourself. Avoid pushing too hard or overdoing things. Instead, focus on being at one with the present moment, cultivating inner peace, and moving gently through your days. Here are some simple, nurturing practices to guide you:

  • Incorporate gentle daily movement — a slow walk, light yoga, or stretching — nothing intense, just enough to honour your body.

  • Nourish yourself with good, wholesome foods — listen closely to what your body is asking for and respond with kindness. Fresh, colourful, balanced meals support both body and mind.

  • Tune in and listen to your body — it’s wise and will gently tell you exactly what it needs right now.

  • Meditate, rest, and relax as much as you can. These moments of stillness recharge you deeply.

  • If creative energy flows in, follow it — draw, write, make, or dream. This is a beautiful window to plant seeds and lay foundations for projects that will bloom beautifully come spring.

  • In short: Be gentle. Be present. Be patient.

This season of rest and attunement is powerful preparation for the growth ahead. Trust the process — your inner wisdom knows the way.

Warmest Blessings

Louisa
